I agree with the other comments,
this definitely made me think of the Pillar of Autumn.

it's that hexagon/octagon-like shape along with the twin engines in the back
doesn't strike me as very star-warsy

Definitely, the Halo series was one of the inspirations. Some people may have problem with this, but we dont really stick to Star Wars canon with Armies of the Fallen...

I think people may have a problem with this because
it's blatantly obvious that your inspiration came from Halo
and people want original star wars based stuff

people are quite hard to please

perhaps a front view of the ship would help?

This is actually the first time someone mentions Halo, so I guess it's just a back of the ship. Also, the design of the original ships wouldn't really stick with the story of AotF, here the ships are more utilitarian and crude. So these are the reasons I went for this sort of design...
